About Authenticity Appraisal

For many years, we have handled the distribution of original drawings, autographed papers, and signed books by manga artists. When customers bring items they wish to sell, we examine them and purchase them at appropriate prices. These items are then sold through Mandarake storefronts and catalogs.

When making a purchase, experienced staff members inspect the items in person to determine their authenticity and artistic value.

At that time, we also refer to extensive data from previously acquired works by the same artist and other submitted items.

Over the years, we have built our own unique appraisal system through the vast circulation of such items.

Originally, this system was not developed to provide authentication upon customer request. However, in recent years, more customers who trust our appraisal system have asked us to authenticate items in their possession as personal assets. In response, we have started issuing "Certificates of Authenticity."

1. Confirmation of Eligibility for Appraisal
(Advance Application)

To check whether an item is eligible for appraisal, please submit the following information via the dedicated form at the bottom of our website.
(Please note that we may not be able to accept certain items for appraisal depending on the circumstances.)

  • E-mail Address
  • Name
  • Phone Number
  • Home Address
  • Name of the Item
  • Photo of the Item
For illustrations: Take a front-facing photo
For 3D items: Take photos from three different angles
  • Where the item was purchased from, how much was paid for the item etc.

After reviewing your information, the Authenticity Appraisal Department will contact you if appraisal is possible.

2. Appraisal Procedure and Fees

If we determine that the item can be appraised, the following procedure will be followed:

Send the actual item to the Authenticity Appraisal Department.
(We cannot appraise copies or images.)

Simultaneously, pay the application fee of ¥50,000 + tax.
(This application fee is a partial prepayment of the appraisal fee.)

We may follow up with additional questions about the acquisition history.

Based on the appraisal result, the final fee is determined as follows:

[Breakdown of Fees Based on Appraisal Results]

If deemed authentic:
→ 10% of the market value (as assessed by us) + tax
→ However, if the market value is less than ¥500,000, the fee is a flat ¥50,000 + tax

If deemed counterfeit:
→ Only the application fee (¥50,000 + tax) will be charged (no additional fees)

A Certificate of Authenticity will be issued regardless of the result.
Note: The time required for appraisal varies depending on the item.
If your item cannot be accepted, no fees will be charged.
